The Smashing Pumpkins - The Fellowship (Radio Rip)

A radio rip of the new song by The Smashing Pumpkins from Teargarden By Kaleidyscope Volume II: The Solstice Bare. The song is not yet available at The SP website but was apparently released for the TV show "The Vampire Diaries".

An interesting turn for Teargarden...

Alice In Chains: The 3D Movie + Lesson Learned Music Video

Alice In Chains is making a 3D Movie! Who would have thought that over 8 years after the death of singer Layne Staley, AIC would be back on top and filming a concert for a 3D audience? According to HDLogix, the band is set to film their hometown performance on the BlackDiamondSkye tour on Friday, Oct. 8, 2010. The band has yet to release details of when this footage will be released.

In the meantime, you can ingest their latest music video for Lesson Learned. A dark themed video for a dark song.

Soundgarden - Black Rain

What could be better than a new Soundgarden video? A new Soundgarden video starring Dethklok! Directed by 'Metalocalypse' co-creator Brendon Small, the video comes off as a Metalocalypse video with Soundgarden providing the soundtrack. Though the band does look pretty cool in animated form, some fans are understandably upset that they don't get to see the actual band in real life action.

One thing that most fans agree upon, the sound is classic, unmistakeably Soundgarden.

Soundgarden - The Elusive Bonus Only "Telephantasm", track

Soundgarden released a new box set recently which included 2 "new", songs. One of these new songs called "Black Rain", you have probably already heard as most radio stations have seemed to grab on to it and the music media has been advertising the hell out of it. The song itself is not actually new, but an unfinished outtake from their album "Badmotorfinger", which has been given new life as the band went into the studio to breathe new life and raise Frankenstein from the dead.

What you may not have heard is an outtake that is only available in countries outside of the USA or included if you buy the deluxe box set on iTunes. Now I am not a fan of bands doing this because the loyal fan base gets screwed out of a song for supporting physical media. Posted below is the song (really more of a jam) in question, you can decide for yourself if it's worth the extra download or seeking out the Australian version of the boxset to obtain.

The Godfather of Grunge

Back in 1993, MTV dubbed Neil Young "The Godfather of Grunge", and many people in the scene agreed with their statement. MTV even went as far as advertising Neil's unplugged using the godfather tag line. Flash forward 17 years to 2010, Neil has a brand new solo album out which sounds as stripped down as unplugged and yet has guitar tones that recall the grungy sounds of his classic "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)".

Neil's new album is called "Le Noise", and it is worth a listen. I'll leave you with the opening track so you can hear for yourself.

Smashing Pumpkins / Billy Corgan - Spangled

With The Smashing Pumpkins giving away free mp3's of their latest album at their website, we find Billy Corgan pouring his heart out on a french television show called "ce soir ou jamais".

The studio version of this song is much more lush and was donated to be used to help along The Sweet Relief Music Fund. You can download the track for free either at www.sweetrelief.org or www.smashingpumpkins.com

The Vaselines are Back!

The Vaselines are an inspiring band. Just as they inspired Kurt Cobain over 20 years ago, they have inspired me. Today I start a blog in tribute to the bands I loved and still love, where they were and where they are now, as well as a few newbies that are around because of said musicians.

So just kick back, put on your t-shirt, flannel, and Chucks... and enjoy the ride.
